Cytogenomics and Genome Resources Facility

NEW! Population Control DNA Samples Now Available
Healthy control DNA samples from the Ontario Population Genomics Platform are now available at a charge of $650 per 96-well plate (2 micrograms per sample). Custom amounts can be prepared upon request. Please contact the facility for details.

The Cytogenomics and Genome Resources Facility provides a comprehensive suite of cytogenetic and physical mapping services, DNA samples, clones and other resources to researchers both in the academic community and in the private sector.

Please see our acknowledgment policy.

1. Cytogenomics Overview

The Cytogenomics Facility offers a wide variety of chromosomal analysis techniques for many different research applications. For certified hospital clinical and prenatal cytogenetics, please contact The Hospital for Sick Children's Cytogenetics Laboratory.

Services offered include:

  • Karyotyping
    • human, rodent, primate, cell lines and others
    • mouse splenocytes
    • mouse embryonic stem cells
    • spectral karyotyping (SKY)
  • FISH mapping (metaphase, interphase)
  • Transgene insertion point mapping (G-to-FISH)
  • Physical mapping
  • ES/transgenic integration site mapping, copy number determination
  • Breakpoint mapping (translocation, inversion, duplication)
  • Fluorescent labeling of BAC clones (for FISH mapping by customers), in conjunction with the Genome Resources Facility
  • Whole genome array Comparative Genomic Hybridization. This service is offered by the Microarray Analysis and Gene Expression Facility
2. Cytogenomics Pricing

Please complete a request form. Karyotype analysis includes a complete summary of results listing the number of cells counted and karyotyped, the chromosome modal number and the number of atypical non-clonal cells. For a sample report, click here.

Please note: Prices for cytogenomic and genome resource services were increased effective May 1st, 2010.

4. Genome Resources Overview

The Genome Resources Facility provides genomic mapping services including retrieval of clones from the on-site repository, genomic library screening, tissue expression profiling, database analysis, annotation and probe selection, and whole genome amplification (WGA). Specific highlights are as follows. Please note that there are restrictions on distribution of some of the sample and library resources. In these cases, experiments can be performed in-house at TCAG if necessary. For further information, please ask us. To request clones or services, please fill out this form.
